Tu'ipelehake Leadership Scholarship
VISION
 

The hope of building a strong society is dependent upon the preparation of leaders who will help to better their surroundings, economy, and raise the quality of life for all. The Tu'ipelehake Leadership Scholarship Fund will award potential Tongan leaders seeking academic excellence as a source to sustain and advance local and global betterment.

Fund Development:

Funds will be developed for the purpose of providing scholarships to financially disadvantage Tongan students with leadership skills residing in Utah who are qualified and determined to graduate with a degree from an accredited college/university. Unrestricted funds will also be used to provide scholarships to qualified, financially disadvantaged, and opportunity-less students residing in Tonga who are potential leaders graduating from High School, and seeks to attend college/university.

 

Restricted funds : These are funds that have been declared by private donors to be used only in Utah or within the United States .

Non-restricted funds : These are funds that can be used in Utah , anywhere in the United States , and/or in Tonga .

 

Criteria for scholarships:

UTAH :

Tongan descendant
Instate student ( Utah )
Financially disadvantaged (Pell Eligible)
Have a cum. GPA of 3.0 or better
Demonstrates leadership abilities
Community service / extracurricular activities
Motivation to succeed in school

 

TONGA :

Tongan descendant
Live in Tonga
Opportunity disadvantaged
Financially disadvantaged
Have a cum. GPA of 3.0 or better
Demonstrates leadership abilities
Extracurricular activities / community service
Motivation to succeed in school

 

(We reserve the right to add or delete criteria as needed to improve scholarship program)

 

Amount of Scholarships for 2006:

Utah : One (1) $1000.00 Scholarship to a Utah resident
Tonga : Four (4) full-tuition scholarships to Tonga colleges (High Schools).

 

Proposed Time Line:

February 25, 2005 - Launch TLS in Utah @ the “Royal Winter Ball”
July 6, 2005 - Launch TLS in Tonga
July 6, 2005 - Distribution of applications and flyer advertisement in Tonga
August 2005 - Distribution of applications and flyer advertisement in Utah
November 1, 2005 - Application deadline for Tonga
January 14, 2006 - Application deadline for Utah
December, 2005 - Award scholarships to Tonga recipients in Tonga
February 24, 2006 - Award Utah recipients at the “Royal Winter Ball in Utah ”
(HRH Prince Tu'ipelehake to award the very first scholarships)
