Tongan Greats to present Jerseys Sione Mafi, Fatai Kefu and Fa'aleo Pifeleti will do the honours of presenting the players Jerseys for the games against Italy and Wales in Canberra. Fatai's son Toutai will do the honours for the All Blacks game. This move will just about top off a super preparation by the Ikale Tahi. Following their two-week camp in Rotorua, they have now settled into to their base in Canberra. A great motivational factor having these guys present the Jerseys as they wore the Red Jersey with Pride and played like men possessed in their hey day and taking Tongan Rugby to a height that no team since have not been able to emulate. It is also the first time that players from this era have been recognised and a timely one too as this Tongan team could be the one that could bring back the glory days. During their era Sione Mafi , Fatai and Fa'aleo were part of the Tongan Team that defeated the wallabies in 1973, Sione Mafi was the Captain and Number 8. A huge man by any standard standing 6 ' 4" and weighting over 200 pounds, he would terrorise opponents and unstoppable from the back of the scrum, inside the 22. Another Giant is lock Fa'aleo , standing 6'6 and just under 200 pounds, this man just about out jumped all the great second rowers in the pacific during Tonga's reign. Fati was a versatile utility back that could pretty much play anywhere in the backs. He made his trademark at full back and just to show his skill and versatility played a number of tests for Tonga at lock. |
