Wayne Pivac named Pacific Islanders Coach

Fiji coach Wayne Pivac has been handed the job of head coach of the combined Pacific Islanders Team for their matches against Australia (July 3), All Blacks (July 10) and Sprinboks (July 17).

Tonga’s coach, Former Wallaby great Willie Ofahengaue and former Manu Samoa coach Fepuleai Selefuti Patu will be the assistant Coaches.

All Black legend Michael Jones, will manage the team.

The Team will be drawn from the best players in June’s Pacific Tri-Nations between Fiji, Samoa and Tonga.

Samoa host Tonga on 29 May, Fiji travel to Tonga on 5 June then host Samoa on 12 June.

The 30-man squad will be announced following the Fiji-Samoa game.

"The big challenge is going to be getting the players together from different parts of the world who are playing under different coaching strategies to form one side," Mr Pivac said.

The Team will be then go into camp on the Gold Coast in Queensland shortly after.
