Willi’O – New Coach for Ikale Tahi

The TRFU has appointed Willi’O as Head Coach of the Ikale Tahi for the next two years. Interviews were conducted earlier this week with five candidates who all had good credentials, however Willi’O with his vast experience as a player then player/coach in Japan for the last 5 years puts him way ahead of the rest.

This could be the turning point for Tongan Rugby, as Willi’O will appoint his own management team including selectors.

Daniel Manu, is also expected to be appointed as Team Trainer. Manu who is a fitness fanatic will bring a different dimension into the team.

A welcome sight for Tongan rugby as these two in their hey day terrorized opponents while playing for the Wallabies in the mid-eighties and early nineties.

If all goes well, Toutai Kefu will join up with these two greats in 2006 ,one year out of the 2007 RWC to be held in France as technical adviser.

It is a breath of fresh air to finally have our boys come home to bring Tongan Rugby to where it should be.
